Veniero’s Pasticceria & Cafe
The first time I ever visited New York happened over my fifth grade Thanksgiving week. I think I was ten. I actually don’t remember much from the trip, only small tidbits of random things that happened, like the time I had a nose bleed in Saks (or some other haute-y department store) and I discovered the magic of automatic plastic toilet wrappers (they’re better than the average toilet seat cover, and I have yet to see them in usage again) as I tried to stop the bleeding…
But mostly, I recall standing in line for two hours to buy Thanksgiving deserts from Veniero’s and eating them later on in our hotel room at the Intercontinental.
Some kind of nice symmetry that nearly ten years later, I got to buy a box of miniature cannolis and marzipan to bring home to California for Thanksgiving break. They were melted and smooshed after the six hour flight, but it’s the thought that counts, right?
What should I bring home for Christmas this year?
