drshebloggo: This isn’t an exact science, but I looked at each song, the choice to sing it, and its context pretty closely.  If it tied into a storyline, it was more likely to be considered character-driven.  If it cross-cut into a montage, it was more likely to be considered character-driven.  If it was originally a glee club assignment, it almost always shuffled into plot-motivated.  If it was a performance for a group of people (competition episodes, for example) it was more likely to be counted as plot-driven.  But again, not an exact science. Regardless, the pattern is interesting.  Also, crunched numbers: S1: 53 character-driven performances (54%); 45 plot-driven (46%) S2: 39 character-driven performances (32%); 82 plot-driven (68%) Ryan: 35 character-driven performances (avg 2.3/ep); 39 plot-driven performances (avg 2.6/ep) Brad: 33 character-driven performances (avg 2.5/ep); 32 plot-driven performances (avg 2.5/ep) Ian: 19 character-driven performances (avg 1.4/ep); 51 plot-driven performances (avg 3.6/ep) Doesn’t this just explain so much?
